GOVERNOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the governing body are wide and varied. These are just some examples of the areas that we deal with -

v  Establishing the overall strategic direction of the organisation

v  Act as employer of school teaching and support staff

v  Appoint staff.

v  Agree the Admissions Policy

v  Review the Head’s decisions on exclusions in specific circumstances.

v  Be responsible for the Health and Safety of pupils

v  Approve the School’s prospectus

v  Approve and monitor budget spend

v  Oversee the School’s Curriculum Policy

All School Governors are volunteers who hold enhanced CRB clearance, before they are appointed. All information passed onto School Governors is treated confidentially.

The Role of the Governing Body

The key purpose of the Governing Body is to help Richmond Hill Primary School provide the best possible education for all of our pupils.

We do this by;

♦ Setting the school’s values, vision and long-term aims and agreeing plans and policies

♦ Monitoring and evaluating performance, acting as a critical friend to the Head Teacher, to support and challenge her in managing the school

♦ Ensuring the school is accountable to you, your children, the Richmond Hill Community,

the local authority and our staff.

We achieve these aims in a number of ways:

♦ Full Governing Body meetings—currently Once per term

♦ Sub-Committee meetings several times a term, covering Curriculum, Finance, Staffing,

Premises - Health & Safety.   We also review the various policies that need reviewing along

with adopting new ones when necessary.

♦ Attendance at special assemblies and other school events

♦ Regular meetings with the Head Teacher and other staff

♦ By linking a Governor to a key part of the curriculum or school improvement target to conduct monitoring visits.

School Development Plan

A significant responsibility for the governing body is to oversee, agree and

monitor the annual School Development Plan that is drawn up at the start

of each academic year.

In drawing up the plan input is taken from children, staff, parents and governors.
We look at what we do really well at Richmond Hill and what we would like to do even better.

We currently have no vacancies for Parent Governor`s.

The Future

Parents Evenings
We have decided to have a couple of Governors available at future parents evenings to meet, greet and answer your questions.

Coffee Time
We also would like to hold a joint coffee time along with Staff, our Parents, the place and time are to be confirmed but we would be aiming to hold these once a term and would love to see you there..

We are planning to put a suggestion, question or anything you like box in the School Entrance this will be checked on a weekly basis alternatively you can email us on richmondhillgovernors@gmail.com

We currently have no Governor vacancies.

Richmond Hill Governors are very keen to build upon the strength and support which parents can offer to our school and in turn support your children.
To develop this link further we will be arranging an afternoon where you can come an meet us for a cuppa and a chat.  Keep checking back for dates, they will also be in the School Newsletter too.

It has been 12 months since we asked you complete a short survey of 4 questions regarding the Governing body and information sharing systems within the school.
We feel that as both Governors and the Staff Leadership Team we have used this information to improve systems and communication.

Please click the above  link to see the outcome of this survey.
